St. Patrick's Day 2012

We started our morning off right with Irish FLAVORED coffee.  How could I resist this packaging?

We decided to head into uptown for the parade.  That's the first time we've done that since moving here and it was quite the event, let me tell ya.

My husband, being a true Irishman did not wait long to get his beer on.

It was a perfect spring, actually summer-like day.  It kinda has me nervous for what July is going to be like.

Oh, this poor dog was mortified.  Can you imagine?  I asked the owner if I could take a photo and she was all, SURE!  Poor pooch looked at me with an expression that said, "really?  awww, go ahead."  Then he closed his eyes.  Poor thing.

The obligatory "hold the camera at arms length  because we have no friends" pose.
At least we don't make duck faces.

It was a really fun day.  Especially if you like beer.  Which I do not.

We topped off the day with a bonafide Irish meal.  I boiled corned beef.  I made a quick call to Toot Toot to see if I add the potatoes and cabbage to the same pot.
I have to say it was a delicious meal, albeit, none to attractive to photograph.
And you know how I love taking pictures of vittles.
But trust me, it was good.

And in honor of St. Patrick, my favorite part of his breastplate prayer...

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

Did you do anything fun to celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

My three sons. Again.

My husband....yes, husband took this photo.
Not my 17 year old boy.
Not my 14 year old boy.
My 46 year old husband.
Do they ever grow up?

But here's the truth....I hope not.

Last Weekend.

Someone got accessorized.

Meals were made.

Strawberries were sneakily given.

Books were read.

Trees and skies were admired.

Cocktails were garnished.

Sushi was consumed.

Outdoor naps were taken.

Outdoor naps were interrupted.

All in all it was a nice weekend.  Hope yours was too.

Excitement up in here.

Here's the big excitement up in here as far as I am concerned.  See that brown blur on the edge of the table?  She is building a nest in the watering can on our front porch.  What can I say, I am a cheap date.  Obviously doesn't take much to entertain me.
I took these photos through the window all while trying not to frighten the little dear, so forgive the horrid quality.

But here's what I am worried about.  There was a bottle of bug spray in the watering can.  I was concerned about that ruining the look of her nest.  I waited until I thought she was gone and then I took some tongs out to try and remove the can without putting my people scent on her nest.
Well, just as I poked the tongs in, out she flew!  That is when I noticed she is working with a partner to build this nest.  Do the boy birds help?
Luckily, later on I noticed she was back and still adding to the nest, so hopefully I haven't ruined a good days work for her.
Who knew I would blab so much about a bird and her nest.  I think it is official.  I am showing my age.

Well, then, as I was uploading the photos to share this riveting turn of events to you, even more excitement!  All in one day!
Someone has been snapping photos with my camera.

Same dog, different day.  You are probably thinking, sheesh, all her dog does is lay in those chairs she previously was not allowed on.  Well, you'd be right.
She's making up for lost time apparently.

Oh, and then I found these photos...

They are from the cathedral in Charleston.  I lugged that camera around one whole day and all i got were two ding dang photos.

So, that's the excitement up in here.
We've got a wide open weekend.  I know that seems not fair, but remember, my boys weren't born 17 + 14....we did our share of crazy sport/friend/mayhem weekends.
What've you got planned?
Oh, and do you think I've ruined it for that poor little brown bird?
Should I name her?
I was thinking Katniss? Rue? Prim?
Whatcha think?
I wish March 23rd would get here already.

Hey. Just hey.

Hey there again.  I thought I'd blog again even though I have nothing to report.  Just to keep the juices flowing, ya know?
And right now it is really more of a trickle.  I fear I have lost the blog mojo.
I think it's catching because I have visited quite a few blogs that are saying the same thing.
Blog flu, maybe?

Anyhow, I took the above photo on Feb. 15th.
Did you notice it is the exact same outfit I wore with my Mom and sister?
It's a poncho, y'all.
I bought it with my friend Suzanne when we went to Charleston.
Here's the funny thing.  We were both digging around on the rack and pulled out the exact same ponch in different colors at the same time.
Suzanne cleverly labeled it, "the politically correct snuggie."
Don't you want to be friends with her now?  I wouldn't blame you.
She's fun and clever.

So here's the riveting part....
I am off to throw dinner in the crock pot and do some laundry and my Scripture study.
I know you are jealous.
Feel free to inform me of your plans for the day.
I'd love it actually.

Of late.

{tap tap}
Is this thing on?  Anybody out there?
If so,
hello.
I am still here.  I have just been wondering if I still have anything to say.

My children are growing up and out of respect for them I don't want to share every little ditty.

And so I've been pondering, is my cup of coffee or bowl of oatmeal or the flowers I purchased even interesting?  Is it narrcissistic?  Maybe I am just in a Lenten state of mind.

In any case, the oatmeal is really good.

And I do love taking food photos.

And coffee photos.  But is it blog worthy?  I am not sure.

Meanwhile, while I am thinking deep thoughts time just ticks on by.  The thing this blog has taught me is to notice the little, the mundane, the ordinary.  Will I continue to notice if I don't have you to blab it to?

Maybe I should just blab it to her.  She's a great listener, even if she does smell like fritos.

I really don't know if this is a simple case of writer's block or what.

But let's just table that discussion for now and allow me to show you a glimpse of my weekend.

My Mom and sister came to town.  Nana had to visit her gainfully employed grandbaby.  And buy a dozen biscuits.

We ate.  We shopped.  We laughed.

We took a few photos.

We saw a show.  It was my second time and I loved it just as much the second go around.

It is such a great show but I wouldn't mind a few less f-bombs.  Couldn't they say "pooney" instead?
That probably wouldn't work, would it?

So that's it.  I sure appreciate a few of you checking in on me.
I hope your Sunday is lovely.

Clever.

My son read The Hunger Games two years ago.  He begged me to read it.  I did and though it is about topics I don't normally read about, I thought it was such an interesting read.

By the time the 2nd and 3rd books came out, because I am Mrs. Short Term Memory, I didn't feel the need to read them.

Fast forward two years and we are reading it in book club.  I re-read it and then plowed through the second and third book.  I have March 23rd circled on my calendar for the movie.  I am so excited about it I typed "Hunger Games" into pinterest last night.  My son was looking over my shoulder.  He saw what I was looking at and then said the following statement...

You know, you are killing The Hunger Games for me.

Ha!  I guess nothing ruins the cool factor like your Mom digging something you liked.

I texted my neighbor this little ditty.   She shares my enthusiasm for these books and her response was so clever and classic, I just had to share...

"Tell him you love underage drinking!"

Ha!  Could someone please make a pinterest poster with that?
